Making quilts for premature and stillborn babies. These quilts are much smaller than regular baby quilts, only 24" x 24" to 36" by 36". We have a short list of hospitals in New York to which we donate the finished quilts, including St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, NY; Stonybrook University Hospital in Stonybrook, NY; and Schneiders Childrens Hospital in Manhasset, NY. Quilts are delivered every few weeks.
We're asking quilters to donate 8 inch blocks (8 1/2" unfinished) in pastel colors. Blocks can be appropriate for a boy, a girl, or gender-neutral. 100% cotton only, and machine washable. Please, no flannel. We can also accept solid squares, pieces of fabric to use as sashing, fabric for backing, or batting. If you would like to send in finished quilts, we can take those, too!
As we collect enough blocks, we piece them into tops, sandwich them, and give them to our longarm quilter for quilting. Quilts are then donated to the above hospitals.
We're also happy to put together a package of quilts to send to other neonatal units around the country. If you would like for us to do so, we will need the name and address of the hospital, and a contact name or department to address the package to. We can include a short note if you would like the quilt donated in someone's name or memory.
